The Wood App in partnership with Stellenbosch University is hosting a CPD accredited CLT DESIGN & STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING WORKSHOP on 5 June 2024. The workshop will welcome insights and expertise of Jamie Smily and Michael Kloos.

The Wood App was initiated to support the development of a wood building culture in South Africa through online educational resources. Coordinated by the Department of Forest and Wood Science, Stellenbosch University, industry organisations Sawmilling South Africa, the South African Wood Preservers Association, and Fibre Processing and Manufacturing SETA have made the creation of The Wood App possible.

Venue: Forest and Wood Science Department, Paul Sauer Building, Bosman Street, Stellenbosch

Cost:    R500 (lunch included)

The Cape Institute for Architecture has assessed and validated this Category One CPD Activity. The activity carries 1 CPD points.

SPEAKERS

  • CLT design & construction Presenter and Expert: Jamie Smily
  • CLT structural engineering Presenter and Expert: Michael Kloos

Jamie Smily is a qualified architect who established the first cross-laminated timber factory in South Africa. Since then Jamie’s company, XLAM, has manufactured many beautiful CLT structures all over South Africa. 

Michael Kloos is a professional structural engineer who focuses on timber structures and specifically CLT structures. Michael designed several CLT structures over the past few years and is one of the most experienced engineers in this field in South Africa
